Last weekend, my BIG Birthday weekend, I had an interesting experience while visiting NYC. It involved a NYC Yellow Taxi (of which one driver estimated 15,000 in the Manhattan area) and a natural-colored canvas bag I bought in Brasil last year while visiting John of God. One note: I usually do not carry a bag..but on this day (my actual birthday) we were going on a CircleLine42 Cruise around the island so I was carrying my camera, credit card, license (not sure why I brought this), a small amount of cash, water (the bag has a mesh outer pouch for holding the water), lipstick and a small mirror. The cruise was wonderful, the weather perfect, 76 and sunny. From there, we took a NYC Taxi to Greenwich Village to look at the shops. The second I sat down at an Italian outdoor cafe, I asked my partner if he had the bag. He said he didn’t so I immediately knew that I had left it in the cab. The restaurant staff assisted me in calling 311 which is the # to call when ANYTHING happens in NYC…sooo about 1/2 hr later, after I reported my information; I pretty much decided that since there was nothing I could do about it, I would have to accept that I had lost the bag. I know I should probably have been more upset about the ID I lost, but I am very sentimental; so I was a lot more upset about the bag. This did not impress my partner who was chiding about not paying attention, etc. He takes longer to process things than I do and so I said…let’s let this go because there is nothing we can do about it. Please let’s try to have a good time anyway…afterall, it was my birthday. So, after we ate, we walked around and eventually probably about an hour later, called the cruise line just in case I left it on the ship. I must tell you that I really did not think I would EVER see the bag again, let alone the contents inside. I also should mention that I did call my cell, which was off as I said, and I left a message with my partner’s number. So now we were ready to leave the Greenwich area and we were walking toward 7th Ave E (I think) to find a cab. As I walked (and did I mention I am slightly superstitious, the kind of person who ALWAYS picks a penny up if it is facing heads up (good luck you know)…anyway, as we walked toward the street where it would be easy to pick up a cab, I saw 3 pennies, heads up, in the shape of a triangle…the symbol in Brasil in the Casa of John of God…soooo of course, I picked up the pennies and GUESSS WHAT…I AM NOT KIDDING…..1 to maybe 3 minutes later the phone rang and it was a cab driver who had my bag!!!! Unbelievable…but possible when we remember to TRY, TRY, as hard as it is to let go of an IMPOSSIBLE situation to make it a possible situation…now how is that for a COOL OVER-THE-TOP BIRTHDAY STORY…did I mention it was the BIG one! Yes, I do mean 50…hehehehehehheee
