Job Leads
This page is a new page that will contain job leads for people I work with that are trying to find employment in the Madison, WI area. When possible, I will include a link to the job site. Currently, if you are interested in temporary, part-time employment one website to visit is Census 2010. These jobs are mostly nights and weekends, but could be a fun way to get back into employment for those who have not been employed for quite some time.
Some other ideas when performing a job search are to look at websites such as www.indeed.com which includes many different job search engines on one site; also https://jobcenterofwisconsin.com that lists jobs that are throughout the State of WI including Dane County. Other advanteages of the job center site is that you can create and post your resume for employers to review. The idea is that they will then contact you for an interview.
Another idea is to go to the City of Madison webiste, www.cityofmadison.com and click on the employment button on the top of the page..scroll down to other job sites and click on Job Skills Bank. There you will find a Job Skills Bank job listing and a form called the Client Action Form. Fill it out. Send to the following address: Department of Civil Rights, Affirmative Action Division, 210 Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd, Rm 523, Madison, WI 53703. This form that remains on file for one year, creating a mailing directly to you called the Job Skills Bank. The Job Skills Bank is a listing of various jobs that you can obtain a mock interview by calling 608-266-4910 and express interest in one of the jobs on the list. This should garner you a mock interview. If you pass the mock interview, it is my understanding your name will be forwarded to the employer for a “real” interview. This is just another avenue for trying to get back into a very challenging work climate.
If you are interested in Office work and State employment either part or full time, you might consider taking the Office Support Exam offered by the State at the beginning of each month. For more information go to www.wisc.jobs and look at the section that says current state tests. Sometimes there are tests for other jobs as well such as the Employee Trust Funds which is a job that processes state employee retirement applications and information. Taking the Office Support Exam is a great way to find out where your skill level is at currently. There are 3 scores one can get with the Office Support Exam. Entry Level work requires a 70% passing rate. Higher scores will qualify you for intermediate and advanced employment. From what I understand, once you pass the state test, you will be on a referral list for jobs as they come up in all state agencies. You will receive a letter inviting you to interview. You must call to schedule.
Disabled Expanded Certification Form: Make sure you and your DVR counselor have filled out this form and have it on file with the Office of Employee Relations. It is useful when state agencies are looking at the pool of available interviewees. You can find this form at the following website: http://oser.state.wi.us/ When you get there, scroll way to the bottom of the page and click on site map..then click forms which is under the heading Reference Center…you will find one that says Disabled Expanded Certification. Print it out, fill out and have your DVR counselor sign and return to the Office of Employee Relations.

If you are going for a job in an office setting, I suggest faxing or emailing your resume to a temp agency such as Quali-Temps, Kelly Services, etc. Please let me know if I can assist you with this as I have a fax machine.
