Thoughts about vacations

March 14th, 2009

While vacations are designed to take a break from life, rest, relax, and have something to look forward to, vacations also assist one in reflecting inwardly what one’s life is, where it is going, etc.  Being out of one’s normal or routine environment is a very valuable way to achieve this inner reflection, whether it is a day away to a new place, or several weeks in another country.  The key to being more balanced and overall a little happier person , may be each day to count what one appreciates about those around them.  For example, what do I appreciate about my partner when he communicates with me.  Write it down,  perhaps in a journal, and then tell the person when you are relaxed and alone with them in a special place.  It may not be possible to get away every day to do this, but is important for our overal wellness, especially mental wellness,  to take this time of reflection, for what it really does is take the focus off of ourselves…and this is a wonderful thing because it has been my experience that I am harder on myself than it is healthier to be, and just by taking the focus of of myself allows me a way to express what is important in my life and what my needs are for we all have needs for love, security, attention, giving and receiving..and this is OK.  So take time each day to enjoy yourself and those around you.
